13th December - Bracknell Royals 2-5 Winkfield Saracens (AET) - B&B Cup - Match Report

Goals: L Twyman, Taff, J Callaway, Enright, Whitty.

Saracens finally get into gear in extra time to see off Bracknell Royals. Dispite the scoreline, this was not one for the spectators.

Again a list of players missing for Saracens; Herman, Phipps, Sharp and Holden were away, Davis joined Brown and Carswell injury list. There was one plus for the squad, Warren Twyman returned after a 6-year absence.

It looked to be almost too easy at the start, Whitty playing in central midfield even had a shot from kick-off. This cocky start was rewarded in the second minute when Lloyd Twyman broke through behind the defence from out wide and sent a pea-roller past the keeper and into the bottom corner. 0-1.

Saracens went on to have a couple of corners however shortly after the quality dropped. Royals chipped long balls high from the back and Saracens never made the ball stick or won enough challenges. Cahill (right) was, dispite the new look, having a "mare", possibly caused by his world still spinning and the wrong sort of spirit affecting his play.

Midway through the first period poor clearances led to a long range effort from the Royals midfielder. A slight deflection carried the ball over the diving Twiggy to level the scores. 1-1.

Half-time came and went.

The second half was an even more drab affair, so I'll try to keep this short. Royals took the lead from a corner, the player left unmarked to head in. 2-1.

Nothing much happened for the next 35 minutes, then with 10 left to play and Saracens pushing men forward, Whitty latched onto a loose ball and ran at the defence. Taff, who was probably one of the better players on the day made the option and lofted the ball acurately over the onrushing keeper. 2-2.

Luckily the hangover of the 90 minutes before hand was quickly washed off by the Saracens players, but not by the Royals. A poor backpass was caught by Twyman and his blocked effort rolled kindly to Jon Callaway to pass in. 2-3.

Enright soon made the game safe. A powerful header from a corner found the back of the net. 2-4.

In the second period of extra time a real comical error put the game even further from Royals. Warren Twyman ran clear and passed square toward Whitty. The home goalkeeper then tripped up his own defender leaving both stranded. Whitty accepted the present. 2-5.

So, 30 minutes of additional play were required again by Saracens but they carry on the winning run in the Berks and Bucks cup. Again a win's a win in the cup, but performances will have to improve if Saracens are to defeat opponents with any class or true quality.

Saracens: Twiggy (Scruby), Bennison, Enright, McGuire, Sharp, C Callaway (W Twyman), Whitty, J Callaway, L Twyman, Taff, Cahill.

Next Up: Bracknell Royals FC v Winkfield Sports (B&B Cup)

As we approach Christmas and we remember the birth of baby Jesus... oops sorry wrong website... Back to cup competition this weekend. Our European Cup journey continues into round 3.

Manager Scott Bennison was in an optomistic frame of mind in the morning's press confrence, "It's Round 3 of the Berks and Bucks Cup, win this and only 5 more games to get to the final! We have a decent draw, away to Bracknell Royals, who we beat 5-3 in the league earlier in the season. We must remember that they are a battling team who never give up, but let's not worry about them, I will just be looking for the team to play well and get us through to the next round."

6th December - Match Postponed - Finchampstead Athletic Sunday Res v Winkfield Sports

Well it's obvious that Scott Bennison's rain dance was ineffective. As usual he didn't attract the sun or the ladies, maybe he did help get England a decent draw in the world cup though.

Let's hope the Saracens players don't forget what a football looks like.

Remember everyone there is only 5 day's left to vote on the poll at the bottom of the page, then it's time for a new question...

29th November - Match Postponed - Winkfield Saracens v Woodley Hammers FC (Senior Cup)

Saracens cup match against Woodley Hammers has been called off due to global warming. An enormous ice glacier has melted on the pitch leaving large areas of water.

Callum Whitty was seen picking up ice at the ground, first thoughts were that he was using the ice to nurse his bad foot, however on closer inspection it looks like it is being used to cool his Magners.

Next Up: Winkfield Saracens v Woodley Hammers FC (Senior Cup)

It's another weekend of cup action this weekend for Saracens. So far so good in the competitions, but this weekends tie could be a difficult challenge as the side are drawn against a 3rd placed Woodley Hammers FC from the Premier Division.

Woodley beat Divison 1 league leaders Rides United in the last round 3-2 and have only lost once in the league this season to second place FC Diligent.

Bennison was proud of his clubs performance last week, "The boys played well the whole of the game, but we just needed extra time to find the target".

On giving the players an extra day off to recover from the extra play against Dukes Head, manager used his time to promote his new business, Bennison Fabrics.

"It's stylish, it's individual, Gok Wan eat your heart out!" said London Fashion Magazine.

22nd November - Winkfield Saracens 3-1 Dukes Head (AET) - B&B Cup - Match Report

Goals: Tom McGuire (2) & Mark Brown.

Battling torrential rain and gale force winds, Saracens slide through to the next round of the European Cup with an extra-time win over Dukes Head.

With Herman and Jon Callaway unavailable and regular strikers Adam Sharp and Callum Whitty both missing from the line-up at the weekend, Scott Bennison was forced to shuffle his pack. Enright and McGuire were available for selection and took over the defensive duties, Davis was pushed into midfield with Brown, Chris Callaway made a start on the left with Cahill and Taff partnering up-front.

Lloyd Twyman also made a return to the squad after successful nipple reduction treatment - proudly shown off in the pitcure on the right.

It was Wokingham side Dukes Head who started brightest in the game, latching on to a series of under weighted passes from the home side and testing the back 4. Saracens needed to improve the passing because the slight lack of pace in the side was evident and thankfully they did.

With 15 minutes gone Cahill and Taff were causing problems in the away sides penalty area, with the keeper drawn out of his goal mouth Holden crossed to Callaway who teed up Davis for a delicate left foot lob. The graceful effort hit the underside of the bar and was headed off of the line by a retreating defender for a corner.

It was from this corner that Dukes Head took an unexpected lead. A hoofed clearance was called for by Enright and Sharp who decided it would only be gentlemanly to let each other have the ball. This meant the ball continued on its path to the Saracens goal and the away number 9 calmly passed square to his team-mate to prod home. 0-1.

The rain continued to pour. Was it going to be a drenching for the Saracens spirits?

Saracens, playing up the slope, continued to press and were getting into a bit more of a groove. Good simple passes from the back four into midfield started to encourage space. Cahill and Taff were holding the ball wherever possible.

Enright and McGuire were playing the offside trap to good effect. Callaway was doing a good job on the left with effective passing and good decisions, while Holden was still crossing on every opportunity from the right.

Half-time came with no change to the scoreline. Bennison rallied the troops from under Callum's umbrella.

The second half was a one-sided affair. Cahill created a chance for himself on the edge of the box, only to see his curling effort imprint a muddy patch on the far post. Davis tried another left-footer which the keeper saved. Dukes Head were relying on increased numbers in defence to ward off danger.

On 65 minutes Twyman came on wide-right. Callaway and Taff switched positions. Both changes gave Saracens more pace down the slope. With Saracens attacking only long break away passes were a threat to the home defence. Phipps making a great covering challenge to note. Twiggy often swept up through balls and closed off strikers advances - in between farting to keep himself warm.

Saracens threw the big men into the box for corners and long-throws as they searched for an equaliser. Bennison came on at right back of the four, which soon changed to a three, McGuire pushed up front.

Goals on Sunday didn't take long to resurrect himself. A long throw from Twyman was well bought down by Brown, who flicked the ball into the centre for McGuire to head in past the static keeper. 1-1.

Full time. Extra time...

After all the wind and rain nobody would have wanted to lose in extra time of this game. Even heavier downpours precipitated during the 30 minutes as areas of the pitch became mud patches. Dukes Head began to tire in the additional periods, and although Saracens continued to press the first 15 minutes remained goalless.

With the game turned round and Saracens back down the slope, there was a moment of madness from the home keeper. Twyman's placed ball behind the Dukes left back looked to be heading into the keepers hands - and it did... However he was a good 3 yards outside of his penalty area, handball!

On another day the keeper could have seen red for this, but the well-spirited game continued without cards. McGuire somehow elected himself to take the free-kick. Hit and hope was the theme. His low driven effort passed the side of the wall and clipped a defenders foot before squeezing under the sprawling keeper. 2-1.

Dukes Head looked beaten by this point. Saracens continued only as they new how, on the attack. With minutes to play a third sealed the victory. Good build up play on the right led to a cross for Mark Brown to pass home from just outside the 6-yard box. 3-1.

Overall a solid and professional display. The European Cup is still a possibility and we will eagerly await the draw for the next round.

Saracens: Twiggy, Sharp (Bennison), Enright, McGuire, Phipps, Holden (Twyman), Davis (c), Brown, C Callaway, Taff, Cahill.

Next Up: Winkfield Saracens v Dukes Head (B&B Cup)

After last weeks bad weather Saracens vs Dukes Head is due to take place this weekend, exactly as previosly scheduled. The press attention this week has been on Manager Scott Bennison.

After spending some time with England's Fabio Capello in previous weeks, Bennison has been out to say that he will not be applying for the Scotland job to start a career in international management, even after being approached by the SFA.

"I had a message from the SFA, it's a bit of a joke really. Although international management would be great at some stage in my career, it's a massive step down to take over the Scotland post," explained Bennison, "I am the boss, the gaffer, the man in charge, I am a director, a player, an agent and a super goalie, why would I want to leave this club for such a rubbish nation. Maybe you should speak to Brownie?"

8th November - Bracknell Royals 3-5 Winkfield Saracens - Match Report

Goals: Brown, Sharp, Taff, Herman (2).

Returning to their old hunting ground, Saracens reverted to their 4-4-2 formation and team manager Bennison had enough players to relinquish himself of playing duties for the day.

Brown continued his scoring form. Taff and Adam Sharp scored a goal each. Herman (right) added a brace and even found time to have a penalty saved.

Sarcens took a relatively early lead in the game, after a string of corners were headed wide and kicked over, Brown finally found space at the back post to dive and head high into the net. 0-1.

There was lots of possession for the away side, the back four played into the midfielders feet and Herman was starting to get into the game from the left. It was from this position Saracens scored their next goal. A free-kick was cleared and collected by Phipps who played into Davis' feet. A clever flick from the centre-half released Herman who crossed as the Royals defence pushed out leaving Adam Sharp to finish in the centre. 0-2.

Bracknell Royals are known for their battling spirit and even when behind wanted to try and press themselves on the fixture. A long ball over the head of Callaway gave the home striker a chance to run at goal. Callaway did make it back but was surprisingly out muscled and the No. 9 finished low through Twiggy's legs. 1-2.

Taff swapped position with Whitty and went up front and soon hit the bar with an effort. With time running out in the half, Herman seized on an opportunity before the whistle to make it 1-3 at the interval.

A large number of spectators came to the game. As Bennison didn't have too much to add, Browny took an chance to speak and gladly bored the team with his tactical view for 15 minutes.

Second half and the game became a little more open. Andy Sharp was making forward runs from right-back. Cahill and Brown were spreading the ball from the middle. Both sides enjoyed spells of attacking territory gain, but it was Saracens was Saracens who found the net first.

After good play from the left, Taff weaved his way between defenders to poke in a close range effort. 1-4.

Twiggy was enjoying collecting the ball for goal-kicks after wayward shots crosses and passes. The keeper was called into action but this time only to pick the ball out of the net and the opposition striker turned from a cross and squared, setting up his partner for an easy tap in. 2-4.
Saracens were determined not to let the persistent Royals creep back into the match. Herman saw a free-kick saved and Brown scuffed the rebound wide from a yard out.

Holden came on for Adam Sharp after Royals went a man down for misuse of English. Whitty, who had a quiet game, returned to centre forward.

Herman still causing problems for the home right-back with his trickery, was the recipient of a long ball. Using his pace he sprinted into the area and finished low across into the far corner. 2-5. 'Bazza' was given the nod by his gaffer to attempt his hat-trick from the penalty spot but his spot-kick was saved by the home keeper.

10-man Royals did manage a consolation goal after Saracens failed to clear from a long throw. This time Twiggy left with no chance as the midfielder finished well from just inside the area. 3-5.

Lots of goals and although they drifted in and out of the game Saracens always looked comfortable for victory.

Saracens: Twiggy, Sharp, J Callaway, Davis (c), Phipps, Taff, Brown, Cahill, Herman, Sharp (Holden), Whitty.

NEWS FLASH - "Skid Mark" Brown Joins Sir Cliff's World Tour 2009!!!

To continue his goalscoring form for the Saracens Mark Brown has decided to seek inspiration from his idol Sir Cliff Richard!

Yes, you heard right – Cliff Richard!

Brown was keen to keep quiet his admiration for the legend that is Sir Cliff but was spotted by eager paparazzi on his way to the World Tour 2009 concert.

The Ginger midfielder had been given the opportunity to share this information with team mates, but for some reason has kept it from them. Other players were not sure if he was slightly embarrassed by this strange obsession to the singing poofter, but they have decided to make a tribute to help continue the form of their team.

Before heading to the intimate concert, Brown arranged for his car to be covered with posters in dedication to his favorite performer.

11th October - The Metropolitan 0-1 Winkfield Saracens (Senior Cup) - Match Report

Goal: Mark Brown

Solid defensive display takes Saracens through to the next round as Saracens start their defence of the Bracknell Town & District Sunday F.L Senior Cup (4 years after winning it).

The Metropolitan were forced to move the whole pitch over 5 yards to ensure the injured player from last week could remain in his sunbed style position on the field and also to make sure nobody trod in the local dog walkers poo (or was it his dog's poo, the story has changed so much!).

Saracens made a few changes to the line up but decided to stick with their 4-3-3 formation that looked promising for 15 minutes the week before. With Enright and McGuire awol, Cahill and Davis stepped into the back line.

Carswell was again injured so Herman was recalled to the three pronged attack with Sharp and Whitty.

Saracens took a bit of time to get going and often the whistle stopped the progress of both teams and Cahill talked himself into the book, again. However it was Cahill's quick freekick midway through the first half to Whitty that created the goal.

The bulky forward turned nimbly on the edge of The Met's penalty area and fed the ball through into the path of "Skid Mark" Brown. Saracens top-scorer made no mistake from 15 yards with a low drive through the keepers legs. 0-1.

Saracens continued to press as they got used to their new formation but failed to add to their lead. Sharp worked his way into a couple of shooting positions but failing to hit the target and Herman couldn't find his touch at vital moments.

The Metropolitan had little to offer all game. Long balls were continually headed away by Davis and Phipps and Sharp tackled any forward runs from out wide.

Thankfully Bennison didn't have a save to make all game although there was a scare when a long freekick was found the bottom corner, however the goalkeeper was clearly obstructed by the home forward.

Taff, Brown and Jon Callaway worked hard for the 90 minutes closing down players and putting in challenges. Chris Callaway came on for the last 15 minutes and ran/limped about like a headless chicken, or some other type of injured animal as Saracens saw out the result.

Manager Scott Bennison was happy with the win. "It wasn't always pretty, but a win is a win in the cup. I'll take 1-0 in every cup match," said Bennison.

Fans were buoyed by the win and memories of previous cup glory and were heard to be chanting "We're going to Wembley" as the team bus left the ground.

Saracens: Bennison, Sharp, Davis, Cahill, Phipps, Taff, Brown, J Callaway, Sharp (c), Whitty, Herman (C Callaway).

Next Up: The Metropolitan v Winkfield Saracens (Senior Cup)

Groundhog day for Saracens. Groundhog day for Saracens. Due to the abandonment last week the match against The Metropolitan will be replayed this weekend.

With international fixtures in the week team gaffer, Scott Bennison, was hoping none of his players returned with injuries.

"It's another cup week for us, none of my players have come from trips with serious knocks and all have been training well," said Bennison, "It's still unknown if The Met' player who was injured last week has actually been able to get up from the floor, there was talk of moving the pitch across a couple of yards".

11th October - Winkfield Saracens **Match Abandoned 15mins** The Metropolitan - Match Report

An interesting morning to report on. Andy "Convict" Sharp (right) appeared directly from behind bars, Tom "Gypo" McGuire rampaged through Winkfield's opponents and got the game abandoned and Scott "Fritzl" Bennison locked an innocent woman in his car!

With the game being called off by the referee so early on in the day, Manager Bennison was quick to call a press conference and the local Winkfield Club. The press arrived in their hundreds to hear about the on and off field antics.

Saracens pre-match preparations were scuppered slightly by the last minute release of Andy Sharp from his antics the night before the match.

Gary Lineker from BBC Sport was first off the mark with a question about the full-back. "Andy's a nice lad, I believe he is not guilty of any wrong doing, he couldn't be, he doesn't even know what a tampon is!" shrugged off Bennison, clearly not worried by the players run-in with the old bill.

Andy Gray, Sky Sports pundit, wanted to know more about why the Cup game was called off so early on and fellow countryman McGuire's first appearance. Bennison played down the incident which led to the referee calling time early, "A injury to The Met' player after a challenge with McGuire led to the game being abandoned early on. Did you see my save?".

Gossip from around the ground had suggested a gypsy had run riot on the pitch, however this was actually a clumsy challenge from the Scotsman which knocked the home winger off the ball. As he fell he broke his collarbone and then refused to move half an inch off of the pitch because it hurt and his mum wasn't there yet.

The only other point of controversy questioned by the press was around the kidnapping of a young Danish woman from the stands at the game who was later found locked in the team Managers car. Bennison would not go into details. "No comment".

Even though there was meant to be a winner decided on the day, with extra time and penalties available, only 15 minutes of football was played on the day with no goals. Saracens tested a new 4-3-3 formation which looked like a good attacking ploy. The Metropolitan's only possession came from long free-kicks into the Saracens box.

Saracens managed at least 4 early chances in the game. 2 falling to Callaway who couldn't finish his breakfast and the other 2 for Whitty, who in two clashes with the goalkeeper was getting no change from the officials.

The re-play is scheduled for next weekend and Saracens, given 90 minutes, will be favorites for this encounter.

Saracens: Bennison, Sharp, Enright, McGuire, Phipps, Davis (c), Cahill, Callaway, Sharp, Whitty, Carswell. Unused Subs: Taff, Holden.

NEWS FLASH – Transfer update!

After long negotiations last night, Saracens have managed to re-sign former player Tom ‘Gypo’ Mcguire (right) on a free transfer. The new signing will be available and in the squad for this weekends cup fixture vs The Metropolitan.

After signing on the dotted line Tom was delighted to be back home at the club. On an emotional evening, McGuire had a few words of thanks, “The thing that sealed the deal for me was the funding of my new teeth by the Chairman, Pat Cahill, so I could smile again at the press conference”.

It remains to be seen if the final members of the old Saracens team will return to the fold before the transfer deadline.

4 of the old squad are definitely unavailable; Joe Campbell is unable to play currently, although he is very much a part of the squad, James “Brady” Bradshaw has retired on the back of the cup success a few years ago, Vadimir “The Impaler” is still on the run after being deported and Gary “Sharon’s Favourite” Callaway has since been turned into a chicken!

More breaking transfer news, summer signing Chris Hurley, who brought in for a big fee to take place between the sticks this season, went awol in pre season however he has since been found and is now back to match fitness. This weekend’s cup game could see the giant also make his debut.

Next Up: The Metropolitan v Winkfield Saracens (Senior Cup)

After sucess in Europe last week, it's League Cup action this week. Back to the ground where Saracens picked up their first 3 points of the season vs The Metropolitan.

Scott Bennison was cautious about the game, "We played this lot a couple of weeks ago and won 3-2. I'll be happy with a repeat of that score".

Defender Matt Davis (right) was out meeting the fans during the week to promote the team. "Come and support the lads and don't forget to log-on to the clubs website for all the latest news. Come on you Saracens!" chanted Davis.

4th October - Winkfield Saracens 1-0 Royal Oak(Brk) FC - B&B Cup - Match Report

Goal: Brown

A first taste of European cup competition for Winkfield Saracens ended with a battling 1-0 win against the Royal Oak.

Slight changes were made from the last match and it was good to see Simon and Darryl watching from the sidelines as they continue their rehabilitation programs. Club owner Pat Cahill was not present at the game and there have been rumours in the stands of a couple of new signings to bolster the already impressive squad.

Along with the transfer gossip was talk of new a kit sponsor, Tampax. Potential pictures of the new kit have been released on the internet (right) and full-back Andy Sharp had a few words to say about the deal, "Yes, I have heard of Tampax before. They will be great for the team and the kit will smell really nice from now on".

Onto the action... Saracens always looked in control from the first whistle. Whitty, a known diver, muscled his way into the box early on and had a legitimate, for once, claim for a penalty waved away by the officials.

The pressure continued on the Oak goal with Phipps' long throws from the left working openings. However it was combination play on the right that made the only goal of the match. Holden and Sharp combined to find Whitty who turned provider lashing the ball across the box. Brown had not been tracked from midfield and headed in off of the far post. 1-0.

The home defence looked really solid for the 90 minutes, Enright and Davis winning everything in the air and there was only one testing save for Bennison. The keeper used his quick reflexes to palm a headed effort from Oak's No. 10 onto the crossbar from a corner.

Holden was replaced midway through the second half by Jon Callaway to sure up the midfield and Saracens comfortably saw out the rest of the match.

The team's top scorer Mark Brown was confident about teams chances in the cup. "If I can keep scoring like this we will win every game. I don't think anyone is as good at shooting as me, I'm great," boasted "Ginger" Brown (right).

So the team progress into the next round of the B&B European Cup and await the draw for the next round.

Saracens: Bennison, Sharp, Enright, Davis (c), Phipps, Holden (J Callaway), Brown, Cahill, Herman, Sharp, Whitty.

27th September - Winkfield Saracens 4-2 FC Preistwood FC - Match Report

Goals: Sharp (2), Brown, Whitty.
First home game of the season for Saracens and just about enough drunks turned up to make a full side.

Sharp and Philpott returned, Davis however was left out for his soberness (and the fact that he was running a half marathon later that day).

The first half hour passed by mostly uneventfully, with Winkfield dominating play but not making full use possession. Good passages of football led to early chances for Sharp, but often the final ball was not quite making it through.

With 5 minutes of the half remaining Priestwood broke from a Winkfield corner and the counter attack was finished off 1 on 1 passed the home keeper. HT 0–1.

Second half saw a change in positions. Philpott moved to occupy left back, Phipps to centre half and Mr Jekyll and Hyde – Cahill moving into centre midfield. With his play matching his personality, Dr Jekyll was dribbling and passing well which made him so happy even his father, our sponsor, could see his first smile in ten years despite being many miles away.

Soon the game was level at 1–1 with Adam Sharp the scorer. Play continued, as it normally does. Still however Winkfield were creating chances but were failing to test the former Saracens Goalkeeper 'no hands Jack the spack'.

Subsequently a few long balls coming the home sides way were not being dealt with. Stuart 'Pea' Enright missed the ball while saying “oh shit” as he allowed the attacker to smash a terrific drive into the top corner past the heroic Bennison in goal. 1-2.

With the goal against, Mr Hyde returned to action, grumpy and uninvolved. 15 minutes to go and all the play being created by Saracens. An Obama style rant by Skid Mark Brown towards Mr Hyde returned the boy into Dr Jekyll once more and minutes later Adam Sharp raced clear to level. 2-2.

The game looked to be heading for a tie going into injury time as more chances were squandered. A scramble in the box saw Browny slip over, but fortunately forcing the ball home to put Winkfield 3-2 up. Did they see that coming?

About 30 seconds after restart Whitty raced clear of the back 4, left wanting an offside, to take his time before completing another victory. 4-2.

Bennison had encouraging words for his side, "A hard fought win but a much deserved win. When we start playing better football consistently throughout a match I'm sure a few teams will be destroyed much more handsomely".

Saracens: Bennison, Sharp, Enright, Cahill, Phipps, Holden, Brown, Philpott, Taff, Sharp, Whitty (c).

20th September - The Metroplitan 2-3 Winkfield Saracens - Match Report

Goals: Mark Brown, Matt Davis & Callum Whitty

Saracens deservedly grab three points with a last minute winner.

The trip over Wokingham for the Saracens ended on a high. After last weeks disappointment needed to be forgotten and the away side started well.

More pace going forward from the wings was causing problems for Met'. However it was a deep free-kick from Holden that made the early goal. Mark Brown crept in behind the defence to latch onto the floating ball, he rounded the goalkeeper with composure to make it 0-1.

The Metropolitan were in no mood to sit back however. Straight from the kick off a lofted clearance deceived Cahill and fell and the small No. 10's feet. Bennison could only get a hand to the quick snap shot but it wasn't enough to stop the ball going into the net. 1-1.

The home side took the lead just before half time. Bennison, not usually known for mis-judging anything while playing in goal (unless you read the pre-season match reports), mis-judged the bounce of a high punt from midfield. Up, down, over, in. H-T 2-1.

In the second half Saracens pushed on for a leveler. Luck didn't appear to be on their side with shots often missing the target from reasonable positions (not to mention Whitty lashing over from 6-yards).

The Metropolitan had minimal chances all game, long throws were well dealt with by the away defence, although they did hit the post on the break. Saracens new it was time to make a couple of changes, Taff appeared from the bench and Jon Callaway swapped position with Cahill.

A long free-kick from the full back position was again the creator of the equaliser. Cahill drifted the ball onto the penalty spot and Davis leaped to flick a header past the onrushing keeper. Still time to pinch it? 2-2.

Finally in the 89th minute Whitty (right) found the composure in front of goal that Saracens needed. Whitty sprinted onto a good through ball behind the defence and one-on-one lifted the ball around the goalie. 2-3.

Sponsor Pat Cahill was relieved at the victory, "For a minute I thought I was going to have to trade the team for 3 donkeys, thankfully they turned it around".

Saracens: Bennison, Holden, Cahill, Davis (c), Phipps, C Callaway (Taff), Brown, J Callaway, Herman, Sharp, Whitty. Unused sub: C Callaway Jnr.

13th September - Rides United 3-2 Winkfield Saracens - Match Report

Goals: Mark Brown and O.G.

Definition of 'Referee' in sporting terms:
"a judge having functions fixed by the rules of the game or sport"
All we can say is that today's referee was not playing by the rules or laws of the game. Just in case he ever gets to read this page or decides he wants to learn what he should be doing during a football match, here are the Laws of the Game.

The game started brightly, Rides are a young side who have merged with FC Wokingham. Saracens made the early chances with shots from Whitty, Holden and Sharp all missing the target.

Stand in goalkeeper Sean Cahill was a spectator until a bizarre decision from the man in black. Penalty. Rides No 9 was well tackled by Davis, the referee was the only person in the universe who didn't see this and made up a foul. The Rides forward picked himself up and dispatched the spot kick. 1-0.

The score remained the same until half time. The rallying call was delivered at the break and Saracens soon found more rythem. Pressing from a corner the ball floated over the penalty area for Mark Brown to run onto and finish well on the volley. 1-1.

Soon after more bizarre refereeing, no foul on substitute Baz - clearly pushed over - the ball hoofed clear and over the defence for the home striker to run on and finish well. 2-1.

Saracens went to 3 at the back to get an extra body forward and this immediately paid dividends. Winning a set piece and a good delivery in was met by the head of the Rides centre half and powered in across goal. 2-2.

With 5 minutes remaining the referee awarded another penalty to the home side. No claims, no foul, thanks ref. No 9 picked the same spot. 3-2.

A draw would probably have been a fair result in this game, both sides battled well, however the game was ruined by a beyond poor official. Both sides are going to write reports on his performance.

Saracens: Cahill, Sharp, Enright, Davis (c), Phipps, Holden (Herman), J Callaway, Brown, Philpott (Taff), Whitty (c), Sharp (C Callaway).
