13th September - Rides United 3-2 Winkfield Saracens - Match Report

Goals: Mark Brown and O.G.

Definition of 'Referee' in sporting terms:
"a judge having functions fixed by the rules of the game or sport"
All we can say is that today's referee was not playing by the rules or laws of the game. Just in case he ever gets to read this page or decides he wants to learn what he should be doing during a football match, here are the Laws of the Game.

The game started brightly, Rides are a young side who have merged with FC Wokingham. Saracens made the early chances with shots from Whitty, Holden and Sharp all missing the target.

Stand in goalkeeper Sean Cahill was a spectator until a bizarre decision from the man in black. Penalty. Rides No 9 was well tackled by Davis, the referee was the only person in the universe who didn't see this and made up a foul. The Rides forward picked himself up and dispatched the spot kick. 1-0.

The score remained the same until half time. The rallying call was delivered at the break and Saracens soon found more rythem. Pressing from a corner the ball floated over the penalty area for Mark Brown to run onto and finish well on the volley. 1-1.

Soon after more bizarre refereeing, no foul on substitute Baz - clearly pushed over - the ball hoofed clear and over the defence for the home striker to run on and finish well. 2-1.

Saracens went to 3 at the back to get an extra body forward and this immediately paid dividends. Winning a set piece and a good delivery in was met by the head of the Rides centre half and powered in across goal. 2-2.

With 5 minutes remaining the referee awarded another penalty to the home side. No claims, no foul, thanks ref. No 9 picked the same spot. 3-2.

A draw would probably have been a fair result in this game, both sides battled well, however the game was ruined by a beyond poor official. Both sides are going to write reports on his performance.

Saracens: Cahill, Sharp, Enright, Davis (c), Phipps, Holden (Herman), J Callaway, Brown, Philpott (Taff), Whitty (c), Sharp (C Callaway).

  1. Ruined my Sunday he did. Not to mention the numerous bookings we received for any words said (some deserved, some not) yet no one was booked for any fouls (Barry through on goal, free kick given...no card being one example).

To be fair it was a pretty good game and played in the right spirit (i dont think any player from either side had a go at anyone apart from the ref), both sides played well and a draw would have had no complaints although I do think it would have been a completely different game had we gone one or two up. He will never referee me again I can assure you and yes, I will be at the next Friday meeting for the managers at the club and yes, should he be there, he will receive (another) verbal volley from me!
