23rd August - Winkfield Saracens 4-1 Cavaliers - Match Report

Winkfield managed to quickly line-up a tough friendly, on this sunny Sunday afternoon, against the Green Man's Premier Division replacements, Cavaliers.

Cavaliers claimed to be missing a few players, but excuses were being made to cover up a solid and flowing performance from the home team.

Winkfield welcomed back Callum Whitty up front, Tom McGuire at right-back and New signing Simon was commanding in central defence. Jon Callaway & Luke Carswell did not manage an appearance on the day - CCTV footage (right) suggests the pair had been sighted at a local gym.

Saracens, with around 7 players in the starting 11 over 6ft tall, were becoming a nuisance from corners. However, it was one of the smaller players who smashed in the opener. Kevin Philpott took no prisoners with a lethal left foot drive that cannoned around the inner stanchion of the goal. 1-0.

Not long after, good combination play from Whitty and Adam Sharp set Whitty free in front of the away defence. No pressure from the defence and Whitty drove over the keeper with his left from 20 yards. 2-0.

With the heat playing its part, roll on roll off subs were used by both sides. Darryl came on and almost scored with his first touch. Some good footwork and Darryl's late surge into the box saw the ball land at his feet, only to bounce off his shins and away from goal... But! Right on queue Adam Sharp was on hand to pass the ball into an empty net. 3-0.

Second half and changes were made by both sides. Chris Callaway made an exit with a slight knock and Simon tweaked his groin. Manager Bennison was glad to be able to shuffle his versatile squad into various positions to fill the holes left by the departures.

70 minutes gone and Darryl decided to fool the opposition with his fitness. A speedy run in behind the static Cavaliers left time and space to chip a tidy finish over the goalie.

Manager/keeper/hairy monkey Bennison found time to gift a sympathetic goal to the visitors, deciding to lay on the floor and let a weak shot bounce over him into the middle of the goal.

Overall a good strong performance. New owner, chairman and sponsor Pat Cahill (left) had words of praise for his club, "Although I have only been here for 3 matches, I can see the money I have spent in the transfer window has created an awesome squad and I expect them to challenge for all silverware on offer. Plus that boy Sean is one hell of a player, good looking too".
