7th February - Winkfield Saracens 3-1 DC Steamers - B&B Cup - Match Report

Goals: Whitty, Davis, C Callaway

With Manager Bennison now diagnosed with Alzheimers this weeks match report may be even more vague.

Finally the 4th round fixture that is long overdue went ahead. Todays visitors from East Reading looked a very experienced and composed side. DC Steamers looked to pass the ball around nicely as did the home side Saracens who had the edge with a superior work rate and clear advantage in pace.

With the ball moving round the park nicely Saracens were having much joy when the ball was used down the wings where the first goal came courtesy of a Twyman special cross-shot to which no one ever knows found Whitty at the back post to take the lead 1-0. Due to his current illness and the fact through several late injuries to his side manager Bennison once again pulled on his magical boots, subsequently has a blank from 20 minutes until he was rightly subbed after 65 minutes!

Half time Saracens led 3-0 with Chris Callaway scoring and another player believed to be peace warlord Davis.

Second half saw the game become scrappy with passing now less evident and more long ball football which suited the visitors as the tall centre halfs had no problem winning headers against an unusual small Saracens side. DC Steamers did manage to find the net in the second half and a decent save from Twiggy when dealing with a one on one kept the visitors at bay, other than that no more dramas. Saracens are comfortably into round 5 of 8.

Saracens: Twiggy, Sharp, Phipps, Herman, Davis, Twyman, Bennison (Cahill), J Callaway, Taff, C Callaway, Whitty (c). Subs not used: Enright, Holden
